Hi BVC’ers!

The word for this week is STUDY. Can you imagine a world where no one studied? All the mistakes and errors that would result…the wrong decisions…even the wrong conclusions. Life would be a great big mess.

Study is important because it helps us to grow and gain insight. I remember my seminary days at Denver Seminary … it seems all we ever did for hours at a time was study. The days of doing that prepared me for what lay ahead and I’ve continued to study and learn and grow. That’s why here at BVC we offer a series of classes that will not only cause you to study but also get you into the Word of God. It’s imperative in these turbulent times that we do that.

On the near horizon are two opportunities for you to study and grow.

#1: LOVE LIKE THAT. All the items are supposed to be shipped sometime in the first two weeks of September. What this means is that we won’t be able to begin until probably the first week of October. The Bible details five specific ways that Jesus loved people. I think each of us need to know what those are…and how we can implement them in our lives. The Wednesday night hour will be related to those specific ways. The sermons on Sunday morning will dovetail with the study. There’s still room for you to sign-up and participate! And I hope you will.

#2: EXPERIENCING GOD. This study is scheduled to begin October 4. If you’ve been looking for a study that will challenge you, this one is it. I’ve been able to be in a conference where Henry Blackaby (the author) spoke. This study is well worth your investment and you still have time to sign-up! If you can’t do study #1, then I really urge you to do study #2!

Both of the above will deepen your understanding of the Word in ways you never thought possible. If you have any questions, please let me know or approach me on Sunday and ask me.

Not only do we need to study, but we also need to engage our community. There are certain events coming up that need to be on your radar.

Event #1: HULA MINISTRY. In speaking with Stella Begonia, she has plans for the Hula Ministry to go outside the walls of BVC and minister to various groups in various locations. I think this is fantastic. If you’ve been wanting to join this ministry, now’s the time! They meet on Fridays most weeks.

Event #2: OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. It’s not too early to begin collecting items and bringing them to church. Toys, pens, pencils, calculators, notebooks, wash cloths, socks and various other items (most of which you can get at a Dollar Store) are necessary. Lori Serpa can answer any questions you might have so that you bring items that are approved.

Event #3: COMMUNITY FAMILY FESTIVAL. This is coming up on October 31, from 5-8 p.m. Santino and Eloisa Fortes are the point people for this event where we welcome our neighborhood to our campus. We especially need greeters and people to man an information table. We not only want to welcome these people to our campus but we want to have the opportunity to minister. A prayer team for the days leading up to CFF is absolutely essential. If you’d like to be part of the prayer team, please let me know!!

This coming Sunday the PROMISES OF GOD sermon series continues (and is scheduled to conclude on September 23). I hope and pray that you’ve been learning new things about the promises which God has made. Starting October 7, LOVE LIKE THAT will begin.

I’m looking forward to seeing each of you this coming Sunday morning!!
Love, Pastor Chuck
