Today I’m reminded of the words Paul wrote to Timothy: “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). We are blessed to have at Berryessa Valley Church two such men who are desirous to follow the Lord Jesus. As I have watched them involve themselves in ministry, I brought before the Lord and then the Board of BVC, the need to further provide training for these two men. After some discussion, the Board endorsed the idea for me to share the preaching schedule with Jerett Olson and Raud de Silva. Over the course of the next few months, both these men will have the opportunity to speak on several occasions. I’m excited about this because I believe God has brought them into our congregation for a purpose and our responsibility back to them is to enable them both to continue to grow in their development as shepherds. The first such occasion will be October 4 when Jerett brings the message. On the Sundays that they are not speaking, I’ll be continuing in my series from Colossians entitled, “Standing Tall in Perilous Times.” This coming Sunday we’ll be looking at Colossians 1:9-14 entitled, “Living Strong.” Last night (Wednesday, September 23) several of us from BVC went to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank where we sorted 15,000 pounds of tomatoes! I’m glad for these opportunities to not only help 2nd Harvest Food Bank but also to rub shoulders with people who represent groups from all over Santa Clara County! Our RUMMAGE SALE is going to be taking place on Saturday, October 10 (note the new date). If you have items you would like to contribute, please bring them to the church the week prior to October 10. The rummage sale goes to support Operation Christmas Child. If you’d like to volunteer, please see Lori Serpa. Our COMMUNITY FAMILY FESTIVAL is fast approaching on Saturday, October 31. Soon a banner will be hung from the church building letting our community know we’d like for them to attend. So if you know of families, singles, young children, or others who might enjoy this evening, please invite them to come. We could also use any candies that you would like to donate as well. Raud de Silva is our point person for this event. Raud will be able to give you a list of areas that need volunteers (everything from overseeing a booth to constructing it as well)!! Have a great week ahead — and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Love, Pastor Chuck
