This week I want to focus on another core value of BVC: DISCIPLESHIP. Jesus spent three years with the men He personally selected to carry on His work after He ascended to Heaven. Those men did a great job because they were taught by a Master Teacher. Discipleship is the task we have to make sure every man and woman (and boy and girl) is being equipped to walk as Jesus walked. How does this happen? It comes from spending time with each other (sometimes in very relaxed settings and sometimes in very strict settings). It means sitting and learning and then going and doing. When I was in high school, I watched the youth pastor as he led Bible studies. One day he encouraged me to lead one myself. Nervous as all get out, I went ahead and prepared (and had no clue what I was doing). From there he asked me to do other things (from singing solos to leading groups to you name it). Those were good days and I learned a great deal. I learned how to study the Bible. I learned how to effectively lead a study. And I’ve been in a learning stage ever since. Today we would call such a person a MENTOR. I’ve had some great mentors over the years who have taken time to invest in me: Ernie, Bob, Blaine, Glen, and Bruce are just some of the names of the men who took the time. I’m eternally grateful to each of them. As I look around at BVC, I see men and women taking time to invest in someone else’s life (whether it be formal training or informal). That’s discipleship at its best: taking someone along with you!

EXPERIENCING GOD BIBLE STUDY begins tonight, October 4. This Bible study will meet in the House @ BVC. You can come early (around 7 p.m.) and we’ll plan to have our introductory lesson begin at 7:30 p.m. It’s not too late to sign-up either as we still have space available. Cost for this study is $20 per person (and that covers your workbook).
LOVE LIKE THAT begins Wednesday, October 10. This study will meet in the House @ BVC at 7 p.m. Cost for this study is $20 per person (and covers your textbook, workbook, and a t-shirt). It’s not too late to sign-up for this class/study.
AMBASSADOR is the newest class set to begin on Saturday, October 20. It will start at 7 p.m. at the House @ BVC. There’s still time to sign-up for this class (being taught by Jerett Olson).
COMMUNITY FAMILY FESTIVAL is right around the corner on October 31, from 5-8 p.m. We have need for “Trunk or Treaters”, set-up, clean-up, cooking, oversight, parking and more. If you’d be interested, please get in touch with Santino and Eloisa Fortes.
MARY LARSEN IS COMING November 2-3-4. We are planning to have a THANKSGIVING FEAST on Saturday, November 3. This will give each of you a chance to interact and visit with Mary. Mary’s ministry has mainly been in the Philippines in Cebu. But she’s branching out her ministry to now include Cambodia and Thailand. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more and then attend church on November 4 as Mary brings the message! One of the goals of our time with Mary is scheduling a missions trip to the Philippines in 2019!!
