Hi BVC’ers!

The Golden Rule. Do you remember it? “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” It’s a great verse in Scripture. But what happens when people treat you unfairly or undermine you? What’s the response you and I give supposed to be? All too often we think we need to get back at people, punish them, or in some way do something that will make us feel better (at least temporarily). We seek some sort of vengeance. For us to do that, however, is unbiblical. God has said that vengeance belongs to Him, He will repay. Our responsibility is to still treat others like we would want to be treated and let God take care of the rest. Hard to do…but God has the unique perspective and we do not. He also is a fair judge. The next time you’re tempted to take vengeance into your own hands, remember the Golden Rule and live by it.

CANDY! CANDY! CANDY! It is that time of year when we need everyone to begin bringing candy to BVC. Our COMMUNITY FAMILY FESTIVAL is fast approaching on Saturday, October 31 and we’re going to need lots and lots of candy. You can begin bringing candy to the church on Sunday, October 11. We’ll soon have sign-ups for volunteers (but you can always volunteer by filling out your registration card with the word VOLUNTEER).

RUMMAGE SALE happens this Saturday, October 10. It begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. Lori Serpa is the point person and she writes “We need lots of volunteers. Please let me know if you are available to help set-up from 7-8 a.m., help during the sale, or help with clean-up from 2-3 p.m. And, of course, we need items to sell.”

SHOE BOXES! Time to bring to BVC your shoe boxes for the HUGE, GIANT, COLOSSAL PACKING PARTY we’ll be having on November 15 right after church. Lunch will be provided that day so plan to stay around and help us reach our goal of 500 boxes!!!

TURKEY TROT! The Second Harvest Food Bank is holding its annual TURKEY TROT on Thanksgiving Day. Might you be interested in being one of the volunteers at this event? Please see Pastor Chuck for more information. The event lasts from 7 a.m. to Noon. A great way for BVC to become involved in our community.

This coming Sunday I’m returning to the book of Colossians, STANDING TALL IN PERILOUS TIMES (looking at Colossians 1:15-23). Hope to see all of you in attendance.

Have a great rest of the week and I’ll see you on Sunday!

Love, Pastor Chuck
