Hi BVC’ers!

In Luke 6:46-49, Jesus asks why we call Him Lord and then don’t do what He says. He then cites 2 examples: one depicts a man who built a house by digging a deep foundation while the other depicts a man who built a house but didn’t dig a deep foundation. When life’s situations and circumstances came against both houses, one was able to stand firm while the other fell apart.

What can we learn from all this? First, Jesus has expectations that if we hear His Word, we’ll obey it and not be content to be a surface level believer. Second, if we apply His Word to our lives, we’ll then be able to stand against the plusses and minuses of life. Third, if we don’t apply His Word to our lives, we’ll fall apart at the first sign of trouble (or when things don’t go our way).

Here at Berryessa Valley Church we believe it is essential to be well-grounded (like the first man from Luke 6:46-49). You can’t learn God’s Word by osmosis or because your grandparents were believers. Nobody else’s spiritual walk can count for ‘points’ towards your own spiritual walk. You honestly have to put the time in to see the beauty and majesty of God’s Word.

How do I start? Where do I begin? What should I contemplate doing if I want to grow spiritually? If you’re like the first man from Luke 6, you want to dig a deep foundation. This comes from knowing God’s Word. Here at BVC we’re offering “Fundamentals of the Faith.” This is a 13-week class on Wednesday nights from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning July 5 and concluding September 27. To each and every person reading this, I’d like for you to consider joining this class. Why? Because I fervently believe that this class will start you on the road to a deeper relationship with the Lord because you’ll know His Word better.

Is there homework? I won’t lie to you … yes, there’s homework.

Is there a cost? Yes, the workbook costs $10. If you need assistance with this, please see me.

Is there a benefit? Yes, you’ll become much more confident in your spiritual walk. And you’ll become able to apply spiritual truths to your life like never before.

Please consider joining this class. One of my goals as your pastor is to train you in spiritual things and best place to begin is at the beginning. Please let me know if you have any questions!
